The General Assembly convened yesterday with the sad news of the passing of Coretta Scott King. While a rather hectic day was planned, it was important to take time out to honor the widow of acclaimed civil rights leaders Martin Luther King and several members of the House took to the well to acknowledge her accomplishments.

Finally a moment of silence was observed to remember Mrs. King’s life, her family, and her late husband Dr. Reverend Martin Luther King.

In addition to a Senate redistricting bill the House also adopted a measure which tightens laws governing notaries.

Under the plan notaries must maintain an active address and phone number and be residents of the county where they practice.

Also approved was legislation which makes it clear that public employees can exchange holiday greetings with impunity.
