The House reconvened following last weeks’ full schedule of budget hearings. A light rules calendar is expected this week on the House floor.

The majority of legislative work will take place in committee meetings where lawmakers will be tackling pieces of legislation such as Eminent Domain and the Governors 2006 and 2007 Budgets. Lawmakers are working hard to prepare the budget and will hopefully be getting it to the floor soon.

On Monday, legislation was passed which modifies certain provisions affecting retirement benefits received by superior court clerks and final approval was given to Senate legislation involving the Indigent Defense Fund.

The bill makes a number of detailed changes primarily to how the fund is administered and has an important feature which allows fees and payments to be recovered if it turns out that someone who benefited from the program actually can afford to pay all or some of their legal bills.
