DAILY RADIO SCRIPT
Wednesday, January 11, 2006 Legislative Day #3

The House moved swiftly Wednesday to give Georgia consumers a tax break on natural gas and propane.

The bill, which passed with overwhelming support, cuts the current tax in half from four cents to two cents and will provide an overall savings to Georgia households of between $15 million to $18 million annually.

The action came after lawmakers met throughout the morning during a hectic period of committee activity which included House Rules Committee review of a proposal to facilitate voter photo identification by setting up a program which enables all of Georgia’s 159 county voter registration offices to issue photo id’s.

A due pass recommendation by the Rules Committee paves the way for early House passage of the measure.

Late in the afternoon Governor Perdue outlined in his yearly State of the State address his plan for Georgia’s future.

High on his list were some aggressive proposals to improve education in Georgia, establish a child care tax credit and to create a Georgia Bureau of Investigation Task Force to fight the troubling epidemic of methamphetamine use through-out the state.
