HD 120 (D-Augusta) Quincy Murphy was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2002. Serving in his second term, he is a member of the House Higher Education, Insurance and Intra-Governmental Cooperation Committees. Born in Atlanta and reared in Edgefield County, S.C., Representative Murphy is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He is President and Chief Executive Officer of Quincy Murphy & Associates, an affiliate of the Allstate Insurance Company, in Augusta. Quincy's history of community and civic service includes presently serving as a board member of Augusta/Richmond County Communities and Schools and as a member of the Augusta and National Associations of Life Underwriters, the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials, the National Conference of State Legislatures, Alpha Mu Boule' - Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and state treasurer of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus. He is a former Executive Secretary and Training Officer of the Augusta Association of Basketball Officials, former member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Basketball and Football Officials Association and Optimist Club of South Richmond County. He is a former board member of the Augusta/Richmond County Coliseum Authority, Care Management Consultants, CSRA Business League Inc., CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority Inc. and the United Way of the Central Savannah River Area. His awards include three years of recognition as an Allstate Financial Leader and Quality Agent and 18 years as recipient of the Honors Ring. He was named Man of the Year by Mount Canaan Baptist Church in Edgefield County. Representative Murphy is a member of Augusta's historic Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he is a Deacon, Trustee and Church Treasurer. He is married to the former Linda Dianne Dunton, and they have two adult children, Jennifer and William Quincy III. |
