Agriculture & Consumer Affairs HD 30 (R-Elberton) Tom McCall currently serves as State Representative for district 30, covering parts of Elbert, Jackson and Madison Counties. He is a member of the Natural Resources and Environment, Transportation and Intragovernmental Coordination Committees. He is currently serving as Chairman for the Agriculture Committee. Chairman McCall entered the political arena in 1994 after his predecessor approached him and urged him to take his place. He ran for office under the Democratic Party label and has been serving his district ever since. Like several of his fellow legislators, Representative McCall made the decision this past spring to switch over to the Republican Party in the last election. Born and raised on a farm in Elbert County, he attended and graduated from Elbert County High School. He went on to achieve an Agriculture Degree from ABAC and later obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy with a focus in Animal Science from the University of Georgia. After graduating, Representative McCall returned to his hometown and began farming. He served on the State Farm Bureau Board for approximately 12-13 years. He actually met his wife Jane at one of the organization’s meetings. The couple married in 1982 and had 3 children, sadly losing one at an early age. Their oldest child, Al, is now 16 and enjoys playing the banjo. Katie, their daughter, is 12 and very involved in basketball and softball. Jane is a kindergarten teacher. When he is not performing his legislative duties, Representative McCall spends as much time with his family as possible, for they are the most important thing in his life.
