Chairman of Special Rules
First elected in 2002, Representative Calvin Hill from Woodstock is currently serving his third term as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. Prior to his legislative service, he was Mayor of Ball Ground, Georgia from 1992-1996. His civil service does not stop there, he has been a member of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce since 1987; a Chairman for United Way; a past President of the Canton Rotary Club; past Director for the March of Dimes and the Cherokee Outdoor YMCA.
In 1996, the legislator served as an attache’ for the Republic of Georgia Olympic Team. Three years later, he became a group leader of business people to Indonesia.
Aside from being a state legislator, Representative Hill is an entrepreneur. He has been heavily involved in the wholesale distribution of thin plastics. He served as director of Cherokee Bank. Perhaps one of the most interesting occupations the legislator has had is ownership of a resort hotel located in Belize, Central America!
Born in Sierra Nevada Ordnance Depot in California, Representative Hill later moved to Arizona and graduated from the Apache Junction High School. He progressed from there to attend college at both the Arizona State University and the University of Arizona majoring in business. He obtained special training in engineering and demolition while in the United States Marine Corp. He and his wife Cheryl have 5 sons and 1 daughter and 2 grandchildren. The family also has a golden retriever named Daphne and owned several horses in past years.
Presently, Representative Hill is serving as Chairman for the Special Rules Committee and Vice Chair of Banks and Banking. He holds membership roles on the Appropriations and State Institutions and Property Committees as well.
