Freshman Representative Jon Burns was born and raised in Effingham County, which is part of the area that he proudly serves today. Burns graduated from Effingham County High School before going on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University. His search for knowledge didn’t end there; the Effingham native also holds a degree from John Marshall Law School.

Prior to his service with the Georgia House of Representatives, Burns was a Board Member for the Department of Transportation. His legislative services now include membership on Transportation, Agriculture and Games, Fish & Parks Committees, the later of which he is Secretary.

When the legislator isn’t busy doing his newly elected duties under the Gold Dome, he is quite active in his community. Burns is not only a member of the Mizpah United Methodist Church, but he also serves as the Sunday School Superintendent. He has served as a member of the Georgia State Transportation Board for the 12 th Congressional District as well. Representative Burns also holds membership in the following organizations: Rotary Club of Effingham Sunrise, Georgia Southern University Alumni Association Board of Directors, Georgia Agribusiness Council and Sigma Chi Fraternity. The legislator has served as the past President of the Effingham Chamber of Commerce and the Effingham County Young Farmers Organization, both of which he still serves as an active member. The Georgia Army National Guard is yet just another organization that he has proudly contributed service to.

Jon and his wife Dayle, a Principal at Springfield Elementary School, have been blessed with 2 sons, Jon Guerry, Jr and Wilson.
