State Representative Tyrone Brooks Presented 2006 Presidential Award by SCLC

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) recently announced that Representative Tyrone Brooks (D- Atlanta) is to receive the 2006 Presidential Award at their annual Award Gala on August 1st.  The award will be presented to Representative Brooks by SCLC National President Charles Steele during the 48th National Convention in Dayton, Ohio, July 28-August 2, 2006.

Representative Brooks has been selected by the organization in recognition for his outstanding work and community involvement.

“I am honored and humbled by the expression of support by President Steele and the SCLC family.  This is the third award I have received from a president of SCLC.  This honor is especially meaningful because Charles Steele and I are from the same generation and came up through the ranks of the movement together.  We have worked together on several issues impacting the body politic.”

Representative Brooks previously received awards from the late Dr. Ralph David Abernathy, and Dr. Joseph E. Lowery.

The legislator was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1981.  He presently serves as the Representative for House District 63, covering parts of Fulton and Douglas Counties.
