HD 175 (D- Valdosta)
With ten years of membership on the Valdosta City Council, 8 of which he served as Mayor Pro Tem, Ron Borders decided to expand his public service to the Georgia State House of Representatives. First elected to the General Assembly in 1998, he continues to serve the constituents of House District 175, covering a portion of Lowndes County. Presently, he is lending his many years of legislative experience to the membership of the Higher Education, State Institutions & Property and Ways & Means Committees of the House.
Born in Princeton, New Jersey, Representative Borders now calls Valdosta home. He first attended Marian College in Indianapolis, where he earned his B.A. He later earned his Master’s in Public Administration from Valdosta State University. The legislator has also attended the US Army Aviation School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965 and in the United States Army from 1965-1969. Since 1983, he has been employed as a Real Estate Broker.
Representative Borders has a great deal of civic and community involvement. He is a graduate of Leadership Lowndes, a member and past president of the Valdosta State University Art Associates, a past president of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Habitat for Humanity and a former committee member of the Georgia Municipal Association. He also has had an active participation in the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce, the Valdosta Board of Realtors, the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association and Intertel.
He and his wife Tammy are the proud parents of 2 wonderful children. The Border family attends Christ Episcopal Church, where Ron is a Vestry member.
