SPEAKER APPOINTS REPRESENTATIVE TERRY BARNARD
TO THE HOUSE STUDY COMMITTEE ON STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT
SALARIES AND BENEFITS

ATLANTA—Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson (R-Hiram) has tapped State Representative Terry Barnard to serve on the House Study Committee on State Law Enforcement Salaries and Benefits.

“I am pleased that Representative Barnard has accepted this responsibility,” Richardson said.  “I am confident that he will do a great job for our state.”

It is important that the salaries and benefits paid to state and local law enforcement officers statewide are at a level that will enable Georgia to attract and retain the best candidates.  HR 1396, creating the study committee, is needed so a careful study can be undertaken to determine if changes need to be made to ensure that a career of making the rest of Georgia feel safer remains an attractive employment opportunity in this state.

The committee was created by the passage of House Resolution 1396, authored by Rep. Willie Talton.  The study committee will end its meetings on December 31, 2006.
