Kathy Blee Ashe, was elected to the Georgia General Assembly in 1991, and currently represents House District 56. Ashe is a member of the Higher Education, Children & Youth and Interstate Cooperation Committees. Ashe is an active member of the Women’s Caucus and serves as Treasurer of the Georgia House Democratic Caucus.
Ashe graduated from Agnes Scott College, with a major in sociology. She then went on to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching from Emory University, and completed further graduate work at Georgia State University. Before joining the House of Representatives, Ashe spent 18 years as an educator in the Marietta and Cobb County public schools. Ashe’s career of past and present community service includes participation in the League of Women Voters, the Junior League of Atlanta, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, the United Way of Atlanta, the Atlanta Women’s Foundation, Vote Choice, the City of Atlanta Charter Review Commission, The Children's School, and the Central Health Center. She is a member of Leadership Atlanta, the Regional Leadership Institute, the Atlanta Women's Network, the Georgia Conservancy, the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, Planned Parenthood of Atlanta, and the Agnes Scott College Board of Trustees.
Ashe has been married to Lawrence Ashe, an attorney, since 1972, and they have two adult children. Ashe is an active member of Central Presbyterian Church, where she serves as an elder and teaches 4-and 5-year-old Sunday school. District 56 is in the heart of Atlanta from Sherwood Forest down to Atlanta University and includes Midtown and Atlantic Station.
