ABOUT THE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE

1) What does the Transportation Committee cover other than roads and bridges?

Our committee discusses the development and funding of our Georgia ports, rail lines, airports, and highway beautification.

2) Who approves the naming of roads and bridges?

Our Transportation Committee has a sub-committee called the Resolution Subcommittee. The members of this sub-committee make sure that legislation submitted naming state roads and state bridges, meet guidelines that have been approved by the Transportation Committee. Guideline requirements include documentation from the Department of Transportation stating the road or structure has not already been named. Also, an ad must be run in the local paper informing the citizens of the proposed naming and cost of signage. These are just a few of the criteria.

3) Does the Transportation Committee have any effect on economic development in Georgia?

Our committee has a tremendous influence on our state's economic development and our future growth. Our Interstates are vital in the movement of people and products, and just as important, paving roads, and resurfacing roads in central and South Georgia means more economic development for rural Georgia.

4) How can citizens express their views and comments to the House Transportation Committee?

Every citizen of Georgia can contact their local State Representative about Transportation issues and have their Representative contact our committee.
