A RESOLUTION

Commending Coach Herbert Greene; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Coach Herbert Greene is widely recognized throughout the state as the personification of excellence in athletics; and

WHEREAS, he has been the basketball coach at Columbus State University for more than 25 years and the athletic director for more than 20, demonstrating seemingly endless enthusiasm and energy while succeeding in two jobs that both demand full-time attention; and

WHEREAS, Coach Herbert Greene has reached the elite plateau of 500 career wins; and

WHEREAS, as the eighth-winningest active coach in the NCAA Division II, Coach Herbert Greene serves as an instrument of inspiration and enthusiasm to his players; creates a positive learning environment by encouraging competitive instincts; and instills the values and positive characteristics of hard work, dedication, and integrity; and

WHEREAS, he is a shining example of the important impact that the efforts of individual coaches and athletic directors make on the quality of athletic training received by the young people of this state, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that his superlative accomplishments be recognized appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Coach Herbert Greene for his years of sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of athletics in Georgia and for the positive influence he has had upon the lives and futures of countless young people in this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Coach Herbert Greene.
