A RESOLUTION

Commending and recognizing Mrs. Virginia T. Peebles as the 2005 Sarah Turner Butler Heritage Award Recipient.

WHEREAS, through her service to Historic Columbus, Mrs. Peebles has been a leader in the preservation field; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Peebles has spent decades working for the betterment of Columbus as an effective advocate for historic preservation, a proponent of education about local and regional history, and a driving force in the effort to revitalize the historic neighborhoods of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Peebles has served on numerous Columbus boards, such as Uptown Columbus, Inc., the Board of Historic and Architectural Review, the Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley, the Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Commissioners, and many more; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Peebles has been recognized at the state and local levels on a number of occasions, including a Governoŕs Award in the Humanities; and

WHEREAS, although Mrs. Peebles has now turned over the reins of leadership at Historic Columbus, she will in the most gracious of ways for which she is so well known return to Historic Columbus as an exemplary supporter and volunteer.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
recognize the hard work and dedication of Mrs. Virginia Peebles to Historic Columbus and the preservation of history.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Virginia T. Peebles.
