RESOLUTION
Commending
Mr. H.F. Johnson, 2006 Appling Citizen of the year.
WHEREAS,
Mr. H.F. Johnson has been selected 2006 Appling Citizen of the Year by the
Baxley-Appling County Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS,
he was born and raised in Appling County and attended Liberty Elementary School,
which at the time was almost a one-room school, having four teachers for eight
grades; and he later graduated from Appling County High School and Georgia
Southern College, the first college graduate in his family; and
WHEREAS,
after college, he began his career in education by teaching in the Appling
County schools, and he later became a certified guidance counselor,
and
WHEREAS,
he was elected superintendent of schools of Appling County, and in 1978 he was
named Outstanding School Superintendent of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he moved to Atlanta and became employed by the Georgia Department of Education,
and he served as associate state superintendent of schools and interim deputy
state superintendent of schools; and
WHEREAS,
he served as president of the Georgia Association of Colleges and Schools and is
a member of the board of directors for the international council of School
Accreditation Commission, Inc.; and
WHEREAS,
he has served as Appling County superintendent of schools since 2000, and under
his leadership all six of the schools in the county met the criteria for
Adequate Yearly Progress in 2005; and
WHEREAS,
he has been a true leader and servant of the people, and the people of Appling
County are fortunate, indeed, to have such a man at the helm of their
schools.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Mr. H.F. Johnson for his many accomplishments and achievements and for having
been selected 2006 Appling Citizen of the Year.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. H.F. Johnson.
