A RESOLUTION

Celebrating the life and accomplishments of Joseph M. Still, Jr., M. D., and offering condolences to his family and friends upon his passing; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Still was born on July 25, 1938, in Charlotte, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, he served in the United States Navy from June, 1956, through June, 1958; and

WHEREAS, he was educated at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, and the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia, where he earned his medical degree in 1965; and

WHEREAS, he completed residencies in general surgery at the Medical College of Georgia and in plastic surgery at Duke University Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Still held board certifications in surgery and plastic surgery; and

WHEREAS, he was the founder of the Plastic Surgery Department at the Medical College of Georgia in 1972 and the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctorś Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, in 1978; and

WHEREAS, he practiced with the Physicianś Multispecialty Group, P. C., specializing in plastic surgery and burn care from 1975 through early 2006; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Still held numerous positions, including founder and board member of the Southeastern Firefighterś Burn Foundation; founder and president of the Research Consortium, Inc.; medical director of the Burn Committee, Air Ambulance Service, and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Program, Doctorś Hospital; and others too numerous to list; and

WHEREAS, he was a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, Medical Association of Georgia, American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, Southeastern Surgical Congress, and other organizations too numerous to list; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Still was the recipient of Hardman Cup Award from the Medical Association of Georgia in May, 2002; and

WHEREAS, he was married to Susan H. Still and had ten children and 17 grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, he led a life filled with professional and personal achievements and his contributions to burn victims will never be forgotten.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
celebrate the life of Dr. Joseph M. Still, Jr., and offer sincere condolences to his family and friends upon his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Dr. Joseph M. Still, Jr.
