RESOLUTION
Commending
Senator Terrell Starr for his service during World War II; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Senator Terrell Starr was drafted into the United States Navy in 1944 and
attended basic training in Great Lakes, Illinois; and
WHEREAS,
soon after completing basic training, he married his lovely wife Celeste and was
shipped out the following week; and
WHEREAS,
stationed at the Klamath Falls, Oregon Naval Air Station, he served as an
aviation store keeper; and
WHEREAS,
he had received orders to ship out with the 6th fleet for sea duty off the coast
of Northern China, but the war ended just before his scheduled departure;
and
WHEREAS,
he and his older brother Wayne, who was also in the Navy, met with their wives
in Portland and traveled home together at the war's end, surprising their family
at the train station in Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
our
natiońs
monumental accomplishments in the epic conflict of World War II were achieved
only through the bravery, heroism, and sacrifices of Senator Starr and his
generation, and the State of Georgia is honored to have such a distinguished
veteran as one of its citizens and public servants.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
commending Senator Terrell Starr for his outstanding record of service during
World War II.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Senator Terrell Starr.
