A
RESOLUTION
Urging
the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia to consider creation of
a program of granting undergraduate course credit to entering freshman students
who have successfully completed the curriculum and examinations leading to an
international baccalaureate diploma; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the international baccalaureate diploma program of the International
Baccalaureate Organization is widely recognized as a standard of excellence for
high school education; and
WHEREAS,
the provision of appropriate incentives is likely to increase the number of
Georgia students participating in this outstanding program; and
WHEREAS,
for this purpose certain other states have successfully established programs
granting undergraduate course credit to entering freshman students who have
successfully completed the curriculum and examinations leading to an
international baccalaureate diploma; and
WHEREAS,
the control and management of the University System of Georgia is vested in the
Board of Regents.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body hereby urges the Board
of Regents of the University System of Georgia to consider creation of a program
of granting undergraduate course credit to entering freshman students who have
successfully completed the curriculum and examinations leading to an
international baccalaureate diploma.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the chancellor of the
university system for purposes of distribution to the members of the Board of
Regents.
