Senate Resolution 73

A RESOLUTION

Commending Myrtle W. Figueras; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Myrtle W. Figueras has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as evidenced dramatically by her 30 years of superlative service as a French language teacher at Gainesville High School; and

WHEREAS, following her "retirement," she has embarked upon a second career of public service in which she has served as a councilmember and mayor of Gainesville, a member of the North Georgia Water Planning District, and a member of the board of directors of the Georgia Municipal Association; and

WHEREAS, her significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of her community have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and

WHEREAS, she has been named the Gainesville 2005 Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of Northeast Georgia, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Myrtle W. Figueras for her almost four decades of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service; congratulate her upon being named the Gainesville 2005 Woman of Distinction; and extend to her their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Myrtle W. Figueras.
