RESOLUTION
Commending
Atlanta International School; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Atlanta International School is an independent, nonprofit school for
four-year-old kindergarten through grade 12 offering a program of academic
excellence to American and international students; and
WHEREAS,
the school was founded in 1984 by a group of parents, international educators,
and members of the business community whose aim was to provide the Atlanta area
with the kind of international educational opportunities found in major cities
throughout the world; and
WHEREAS,
while taking a traditional elementary curriculum, primary school students spend
approximately half of their learning time in English and the other half in
either French, German, or Spanish, fostering bilingualism at an early age;
and
WHEREAS,
secondary school students take a challenging curriculum that includes courses in
English, a mandatory second language, mathematics, social studies, science, and
art as they are prepared for the demands of Atlanta International School's
International Baccalaureate Diploma Program; and
WHEREAS,
the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program is a rigorous pre-university
course of studies that meets the needs of Atlanta International School's highly
motivated pupils between the ages of 16 and 19; and
WHEREAS,
across the board, Atlanta International School is committed to helping its
students reach their full potential through a thorough, demanding curriculum
with a global perspective, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that this
outstanding institution be appropriately recognized for its commitment to
academic excellence.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
commending Atlanta International School and recognize this distinguished
institution's many contributions to education in Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. David B. Hawley,
President of Atlanta International School.
