RESOLUTION
Honoring
and remembering the life of Judge Mell Price; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Judge Mell Price was one of Georgia's finest legal minds who diligently served
his community during the course of his long and prosperous career;
and
WHEREAS,
born on December 29, 1886, to William Calvin and Laura Sullivan Price, Judge
Price graduated from Liberty County High School in Ludowici, after which he
graduated with honors from Atlanta Law School on June 18, 1912; and
WHEREAS,
Judge Price opened a law practice in Ludowici in 1912, where he quickly
developed a reputation as a talented and dedicated lawyer; from 1914 to 1921, he
served as Solicitor of the County Court of Liberty County; and
WHEREAS,
Judge Price's judicial career began when he was named as the first Judge of the
City Court of Ludowici in 1921 after the creation of Long County; in 1930, he
was appointed as Judge of the City Court of Darien in McIntosh County, serving
in this post until 1943; and
WHEREAS,
beginning in 1943, Judge Price served 16 years as Judge of the Superior Courts
of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit and was appointed Judge Emeritus on December
28, 1958; and
WHEREAS,
throughout his many years on the bench, Judge Price was respected within his
community and throughout the state for his fairness, impartiality, and great
analytical skills; his legal talent was so renowned that his services were often
sought outside of his circuit; and
WHEREAS,
Judge Price was also a devoted family man and highly involved in his community,
serving his city and county in a variety of offices, and was very active as a
faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Ludowici; and
WHEREAS,
Judge Price passed away on July 28, 1964, leaving a lasting legacy to Georgia's
legal community, who will always remember him for his kindness, thoughtfulness,
and devotion to the noblest ideals of his profession.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life of Judge Mell Price and remembering all his many outstanding
contributions to Georgia.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Judge Mell
Price.
