Senate Resolution 695

A RESOLUTION

Commending the University of Georgia Dance Marathon; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the University of Georgia Dance Marathon is a 24 hour celebration that is held at Ramsey Center on the UGA campus each year to culminate a year of fund raising; and

WHEREAS, the UGA Dance Marathon serves to rally members of the UGA campus and larger community for a worthwhile cause by raising money "for the kids" through Childreńs Miracle Network, with funds directly benefitting the rehabilitation unit at Childreńs Healthcare of Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, all of the money raised goes straight to Childreńs Healthcare of Atlanta; in 2005 more than ten bands participated in the event, the UGA cheerleaders and mascot Hairy Dawg visited, a pool hour was held, all of the gyms and rock walls were open, over 12 families came to speak from the hospital, a hypnotist participated, and everyone enjoyed huge quantities of food; and

WHEREAS, the 2005 Dance Marathon had over 800 participants and raised more than $214,000.00, and expectations for 2006 are even greater; and

WHEREAS, the executive committee of 2006 Dance Marathon consists of Matt Garrett, Geraldine McIntyre, Lindsay Joyner, Miranda Wessinger, Stephanie Silverman, Leigh Tenewitz, Andrew Ward, Jennifer Broder, Nao Hase, David Quintero, Becca Taubel, Kamica Ross, Anna Shcherbakova, Whitney Amos, Clay McCoy, Kenny Goepp, Taylor Noland, Carrie Alexander, Tracie Hughes, Jaya Srivastava, Lindsay Blackmon, and Grant Muller; and

WHEREAS, the young adults who stage this great event, those who donate their boundless talents and assets, and the brave participants all deserve a hearty congratulations and thanks for their generosity that has such a large impact on so many deserving people.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate and commend University of Georgia Dance Marathon and wish them well in the 2006 edition of Dance Marathon.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Executive Director Matt Garrett on behalf of everyone participating in the event.
