RESOLUTION
Commending
Dr. Wendell Clamp; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. Wendell Clamp is widely recognized throughout the state as the
personification of excellence; and
WHEREAS,
the highly respected professional administrator has served with honor and
dedication in the Newton County School System for the past 13 years as
superintendent of the school system; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Clamp's strong leadership led the Newton County School System through a
period of incredible growth resulting in a school system with an enrollment of
more than 17,000 students and 19 schools; and
WHEREAS,
his tenure as superintendent witnessed unprecedented results such as dramatic
improvement in Newton County's average SAT score to above the state average and
a significant reduction in the dropout rate to well below the state average;
and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Clamp is a leader in the Newton County community serving in such roles as:
president of the Covington Rotary Club, member of the Newton County Chamber of
Commerce's Board of Directors, member of the Newton County Library Board, and
deacon in the First Baptist Church of Covington; and
WHEREAS,
the achievements of Dr. Clamp's career have left a lasting impression on the
school system and will continue to benefit generations of Newton County's
students and teachers.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join to
recognize the outstanding career of Dr. Wendell Clamp, commend his valuable
contribution to public education, and extend their sincere best wishes for a
happy and healthy retirement.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Wendell Clamp.
