A RESOLUTION

Congratulating Mrs. Vivian Creighton Bishop on being selected to serve as the president of the Congressional Club; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Vivian Creighton Bishop, wife of United States Representative Sanford Bishop of Georgia's 2nd Congressional District, has been selected to serve as the president of the Congressional Club, making her the first African-American president of this historic organization; and

WHEREAS, the Congressional Club was incorporated in 1908 with the purpose of providing a nonpartisan setting for friendships among the spouses of members of the House and Senate, and over the years its mission has expanded to encompass various humanitarian and charitable projects; and

WHEREAS, among the many popular events sponsored by the organization, the Congressional Club hosts a bimonthly luncheon, a Children's Party, a Founder's Day celebration, an annual Chili Cook-off, and an annual First Lady's Luncheon; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Bishop, who also serves as the Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Spouses, is in her fourth term as the elected Clerk of the Municipal Court of Columbus, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Bishop's selection as the first African-American president of the Congressional Club is a historic accomplishment, and we are very proud of the fine representation she gives the State of Georgia in the course of her many distinguished endeavors.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join together in congratulating Mrs. Vivian Creighton Bishop for being selected as the president of the Congressional Club.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Vivian Creighton Bishop.
