A RESOLUTION

Recognizing January 30, 2006, as Capitol Tech Day; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, rapid and constant innovations in our society have dramatically altered today's economy, demanding a workforce that is prepared to meet the technological needs of the 21st Century; and

WHEREAS, given these recent advances, it is imperative that our students are given the opportunity to gain technological skills that will foster productivity in business and industry and that will support our state's leadership in the global marketplace; and

WHEREAS, strong technology training in our classrooms will mean more opportunities for our children and a greater appeal for national and international businesses considering establishing headquarters in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, technology integrated classrooms give students the chance to apply all kinds of skills, including reading, writing, science, and mathematics, to real world situations and strengthen their understanding of the connection between what they learn in school and the demands of the workplace; and

WHEREAS, on Capitol Tech Day, technology students, leaders, providers, and supporters come together for the purpose of sharing information, exchanging ideas and research, and planning for future technology literacy initiatives.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join together in recognizing January 30, 2006, as Capitol Tech Day in Georgia and encourage all Georgians to explore the advantages of greater technology literacy for the 21st Century.
