Senate Resolution 68

A RESOLUTION

Commending and expressing appreciation to the Tift County Sheriff's Office; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Tift County Sheriff's Office has been awarded Second Place for Category Sheriff-3 in the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) National Law Enforcement Challenge; and

WHEREAS, the annual IACP National Law Enforcement Challenge recognizes the efforts of law enforcement agencies to increase safety belt usage, decrease speeding, and reduce impaired and aggressive driving; and

WHEREAS, agencies were judged on their highway safety officer training, public information and education efforts, innovative highway safety programs, and enforcement; and

WHEREAS, Georgia's law enforcement agencies competed among 307 other departments from 27 different states; and

WHEREAS, the Tift County Sheriff's Office, under the leadership of Sheriff Gary Vowell, is an outstanding example of the positive effect law enforcement officers have on the lives and well-being of others, as they reach out selflessly to serve and protect Tift County and its citizens; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Gary Vowell and the members of his Traffic/Safety Education Unit are dedicated professionals who have displayed great skill and valor in their efforts to increase the safety of Georgia drivers through education and enforcement, and the State of Georgia takes great pride in their outstanding success.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in commending the members of the Tift County Sheriff's Office, recipients of Second Place for Category Sheriff-3 in the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) National Law Enforcement Challenge and extend to them their most sincere gratitude for their exemplary service to the citizens of the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Sheriff Gary Vowell, Tift County Sheriff's Office.
