RESOLUTION
Celebrating
the 100th anniversary of the founding of Turner County, Georgia; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the great County of Turner was created in 1905 by an Act of the Georgia General
Assembly and was named for Honorable Henry Gray Turner of Quitman, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
2005 marks the 100th year of its existence and, as such, Turner County honors
this illustrious milestone with a centennial celebration; and
WHEREAS,
Turner County is home to the World's Largest Peanut, a tribute to its
agricultural heritage; the famous Crime and Punishment Museum and its Last Meal
Café; and the highly anticipated Annual Fire Ant Festival;
and
WHEREAS,
Turner County has become a vital and important part of Georgia and a wonderful
and welcoming home to many of this state´s great citizens and provides an
outstanding quality of life for its residents; and
WHEREAS,
it is absolutely fitting and proper that this body join in the recognition of
this significant historical milestone.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body celebrates the 100th
anniversary of the founding of Turner County and extends to each and every
resident of the county best wishes on this auspicious occasion for many more
years of health and prosperity.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the governing authority of
Turner County.
