RESOLUTION
Celebrating
the 100th anniversary of the founding of Tift County, Georgia; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the great County of Tift was created in 1905 by an Act of the Georgia General
Assembly and was named for Nelson Tift, who had helped found the City of Albany
and served as its Mayor and later as Congressman and whose nephew founded the
City of Tifton in 1872; and
WHEREAS,
2005 marks the 100th year of its existence and, as such, Tift County honors this
illustrious milestone with a centennial celebration; and
WHEREAS,
Tift County is renowned as the "Plant Capital of the World," with many plants
and vegetables grown in its fertile land being shipped worldwide for replanting;
and
WHEREAS,
the county is also home of what is said to be the largest Southern Magnolia in
Georgia and among the oldest anywhere, and this natural wonder has long served
as a meeting place for county residents who, in 1991, formed the Magnolia Tree
Foundation to help preserve and protect it for future generations;
and
WHEREAS,
Tift County has become a vital and important part of Georgia and a wonderful and
welcoming home to many of this state´s great citizens and provides an
outstanding quality of life for its residents; and
WHEREAS,
it is absolutely fitting and proper that this body join in the recognition of
this significant historical milestone.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body celebrates the 100th
anniversary of the founding of Tift County and extends to each and every
resident of the county best wishes on this auspicious occasion for many more
years of health and prosperity.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the governing authority of
Tift County.
