RESOLUTION
Celebrating
the 100th anniversary of the founding of Crisp County, Georgia; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the great County of Crisp was created in 1905 by an Act of the Georgia General
Assembly and was named for Charles Frederick Crisp, a jurist and Speaker of the
United States House of Representatives from 1891 until 1893; and
WHEREAS,
2005 marks the 100th year of its existence and, as such, Crisp County honors
this illustrious milestone with a centennial celebration; and
WHEREAS,
Crisp County is the gateway to the Presidential Pathways Travel Region, and the
county seat, Cordele, Georgia, is renowned as the Watermelon Capital of the
World; and
WHEREAS,
in 1930, Crisp County became the first county in the nation to own and operate
its own electrical power plant with Lake Blackshear on the Flint River providing
its power source; and
WHEREAS,
Crisp County has become a vital and important part of Georgia and a wonderful
and welcoming home to many of this state´s great citizens and provides an
outstanding quality of life for its residents; and
WHEREAS,
it is absolutely fitting and proper that this body join in the recognition of
this significant historical milestone.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body celebrates the 100th
anniversary of the founding of Crisp County and extends to each and every
resident of the county best wishes on this auspicious occasion for many more
years of health and prosperity.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the governing authority of
Crisp County.
