RESOLUTION
Celebrating
the 100th anniversary of the founding of the City of Bogart, Georgia; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the great City of Bogart was created on 1905 and was originally named Osceola
after the Seminole Indian chief who led the tribe in Florida during the Second
Seminole War, which began in 1835, hiding his followers deep in the Everglades
and resisting the attempts of the government to move the tribe to Indian
Territory west of the Mississippi River; and
WHEREAS,
the name of the city was changed in 1892 when a railroad from Atlanta to Athens
was built through the center of town, and, according to research, it was
discovered that a city in Terrell County shared the original name;
and
WHEREAS,
2005 marks the 100th year of Bogart's existence and, as such, the city honors
this illustrious milestone and its proud legacy with a centennial celebration;
and
WHEREAS,
the City of Bogart remains one of Georgia's charming and colorful small towns
and a wonderful and welcoming home to many of this state's esteemed citizens and
provides an outstanding quality of life for its residents; and
WHEREAS,
it is absolutely fitting and proper that this body join in the recognition of
this significant historical milestone.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body honors and commemorates
the 100th anniversary of the City of Bogart and extends to each and every
resident of the city best wishes on this auspicious occasion for many more years
of health and prosperity.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Mayor and City Council
of Bogart, Georgia.
