A
RESOLUTION
Commending
the City of Chickamauga for its efforts to promote tourism in Georgia; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
tourism is Georgia's second largest industry and supports 209,500 jobs while
contributing $1.14 billion in state and local tax revenue each year for a
savings of over $380.00 in state and local taxes to each Georgia household;
and
WHEREAS,
poised in the rolling hills of North Georgia, the City of Chickamauga features a
beautiful and historic downtown and hosts a wide variety of tourist
destinations, many of which feature the community's deep ties to Cherokee
heritage and the city's historic role in the War between the States;
and
WHEREAS,
Chickamauga boasts the first and largest national park in the country, the
Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park, site of the "Gettysburg of the
South," the majestic Gordon Lee Mansion, and the picturesque Crawfish Spring and
Lee and Gordon's Mill as well as several annual events that highlight the
community's unique past; and
WHEREAS,
the City of Chickamauga takes great pride and care in these treasured sites and
has generously invested its resources to promote tourism in Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
the City of Chickamauga and especially Mayor Ray Crowder; councilmembers Randal
Dalton, Daymon Garrett, Nancy Holsonback, William Askew, Robert Robertson, and
Juanita Crowder; City Manager John Culpepper; and Chief of Police W. Jerry
Parrish stand as a shining example of the important impact that each community
can have on the vitality of our state's tourism industry.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
commending the City of Chickamauga, home of some of the state's most
interesting, historic, and picturesque sites, for its many outstanding
contributions to tourism in Georgia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and Chief of Police of Chickamauga, Georgia.
