A
RESOLUTION
Commending
the City of Rossville for its efforts to promote tourism in Georgia; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
tourism is Georgia's second largest industry and supports 209,500 jobs while
contributing $1.14 billion in state and local tax revenue each year for a
savings of over $380.00 in state and local taxes to each Georgia household;
and
WHEREAS,
poised in the rolling hills of North Georgia, the City of Rossville hosts a wide
variety of tourist destinations, many of which feature the community's deep ties
to Cherokee heritage and the county's historic role in the War between the
States; and
WHEREAS,
the City of Rossville takes great pride and care in these treasured sites and
has generously invested its resources to promote tourism in Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
Rossville boasts the Ross House, the oldest remaining structure in Northwest
Georgia, built by John McDonald, a Scottish trader, and named for his grandson,
John Ross, who became the first and only elected chief of the Cherokee Nation;
and
WHEREAS,
the City of Rossville and especially Mayor Johnny Baker; councilmembers Charles
Dunn, Ted Harris, Rick Buff, and Nathan Bain; and City Clerk Sherry Foster stand
as a shining example of the important impact that each community can have on the
vitality of our state's tourism industry.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
commending the City of Rossville, home of some of the state's most interesting,
historic, and picturesque sites, for its many outstanding contributions to
tourism in Georgia.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Mayor, City Council,
City Clerk of Rossville, Georgia.
