A RESOLUTION

Commending the 648th Engineer Battalion of the 48th Combat Brigade of the Georgia Army National Guard; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, our nation´s security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm´s way to protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and

WHEREAS, the members of the 648th Engineer Battalion of the 48th Combat Brigade of the Georgia Army National Guard have long been recognized by the citizens of this nation for the vital role that they have played in leadership and their deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of the United States; and

WHEREAS, these military heroes have diligently and conscientiously undergone intensive and rigorous training in order to serve their country with honor and distinction during the global war on terror during Operation Iraqi Freedom; and

WHEREAS, this group will be deployed to the Middle East in May, 2005, as a combat engineer group in support of the United States armed forces; and

WHEREAS, their selfless and heroic actions stand as a shining tribute to the strength of human spirit and willpower, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of these remarkable and distinguished Americans be recognized appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the 648th Engineer Battalion of the 48th Combat Brigade of the Georgia Army National Guard for their efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of their country and state; wish them Godspeed upon the occasion of their deployment to Iraq; and extend to them their most profound and sincere appreciation for all members of the United States military who stand ever ready to lay the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the 648th Engineer Battalion of the 48th Combat Brigade of the Georgia Army National Guard.
