Senate Resolution 542

A RESOLUTION

Expressing regret at the passing of Mr. E.B. Register; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. E.B. Register was born in Homerville, Georgia, the son of Elbert B. Register and Addie Dame Register, and he graduated from Homerville High School in 1932, and Georgia Normal College in 1933, and was a graduate of International Correspondence School, and many courses in banking and finance; and

WHEREAS, he met DeWeese Thomas while serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps, and they were married in August of 1936, and he began his career shortly thereafter, starting with the Washington Sales Company in North Carolina, then with the Georgia State Prison in Reidsville before beginning his career in banking, first as a book keeper with the Tattnall Bank and continuing in the banking industry in Savannah, Tifton, and Claxton, then returning to the Tattnall Bank, where he worked the remainder of his career; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Register was involved in many civic organizations, including the Rising Sun Lodge, Woodmen of the World, charter member of Reidsville Lions Club, Tattnall County Hospital Authority, Tattnall County Development Authority, Reidsville and Tattnall Chambers of Commerce, Sons of the American Revolution, and Reidsville´s Grand Rascals; and

WHEREAS, more than all of his civic honors, his affiliation with the Reidsville Baptist Church was most dear to him, and he served as deacon, chairperson of the Board of Deacons, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, chairperson of the finance committee, member of the Board of Trustees, and director and treasurer of the Baptist Training Union, and he served as treasurer of the Tattnall-Evans Baptist Association; and

WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife of 68 years, DeWeese, two grandsons, E. Bert Register III, and Michael T. Register, and two great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, the passing of this quiet but great man has left a void in his family and his community, and it is only right and proper that his life be recalled and honored.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express regret at the passing of Mr. E.B. Register and extend sincere condolences to his grieving family and friends.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. DeWeese Register.
