RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Dr. Brenda Shuman-Riley for outstanding contributions to public
education in the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. Shuman-Riley is a highly respected educator in the Dublin City School System
where she has taught English to ninth through twelfth graders at Dublin High
School since returning to the classroom after serving in administrative
positions and working as an educational consultant; and
WHEREAS,
the contributions and achievements of Dr. Shuman-Riley have been recognized by
her selection as the 2006 Georgia Teacher of the Year; and
WHEREAS,
serving in this role, she will take a one-year sabbatical to travel the state
speaking to schools, civic clubs, and other organizations about education in
Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
nothing is more vital to the future of our state than the education of our young
people, and Dr. Shuman-Riley exemplifies the selfless dedication which is
characteristic of our finest educators; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Shuman-Riley stands as a shining example of the important impact that the
efforts of individual classroom teachers are making on the quality of education
received by the children of this state, and it is abundantly fitting and proper
that her superlative accomplishments be recognized appropriately.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body hereby recognizes and
commends Dr. Brenda Shuman-Riley; extends its congratulations upon her selection
as the 2006 Georgia Teacher of the Year; and expresses its gratitude for the
great credit this outstanding educator reflects upon her school and school
system and the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Brenda Shuman-Riley.
