RESOLUTION
Expressing
regret at the passing of Honorable Robert Edward Flournoy, Jr.; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with
the passing of Honorable Robert Edward Flournoy, Jr.; and
WHEREAS,
he has long been recognized by the citizens of Marietta and Cobb County for the
vital role that he has played in leadership and jurisprudence and his deep
personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community as evidenced
dramatically by his many years of superlative public service as a member of the
House of Representatives, mayor of the City of Marietta, and founding member of
the Downtown Marietta Development Authority; and
WHEREAS,
this extraordinary jurist served as Superior Court Judge with the Cobb Judicial
Circuit from 1987 to 2001, Chief Judge of the Cobb Judicial Circuit from 1999 to
2001, and as Senior Judge of the Cobb Judicial Circuit from 2001 to 2003;
and
WHEREAS,
his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience
and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the
citizens of his community earned him the respect and admiration of his
colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and
WHEREAS,
the passing of this generous, kind, and devoted family man leaves an unfillable
void in the hearts and lives of his family and
friends.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Honorable Robert Edward Flournoy, Jr.; and commend him for a lifetime of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Honorable
Robert Edward Flournoy, Jr.
