A RESOLUTION

Commending Georgia FCCLA on the occasion of FCCLA's 60th anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, since 1945, members of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) have been addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through family and consumer science education; and

WHEREAS, with 17,436 members in 232 chapters across the state, Georgia FCCLA, the second largest state FCCLA association in the nation, is helping Georgia's youth to grow personally and develop the leadership skills that will serve them well throughout life; and

WHEREAS, in just the past ten years, Georgia FCCLA has produced two national vice presidents, three Tru-Serv national Vocational Students of the Year, three national Coca-Cola scholars, six international exchange program scholarship recipients, and a national FCCLA scholarship recipient, and its members have earned over 400 national gold medals in STAR events and have been recognized nationally by over 1,600 individual project achievement awards in the Power of One program; and

WHEREAS, in 2004, Georgia FCCLA members donated $2,500.00 to Atlanta Habitat for Humanity and $550.00 to the National Outreach Project, presented the Financial Fitness and Georgia Saves project at the National Forum to Encourage Lower Income Household Savings in Washington, D.C., and received the Youth At Its Best Award at the National Leadership Meeting in Chicago, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia takes great pride in the achievements of these fine young men and women.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in commending Georgia FCCLA on the grand occasion of FCCLA's 60th anniversary and extend their sincere best wishes for the continued success of this exemplary organization.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Georgia FCCLA.
