Senate Resolution 519

A RESOLUTION

Commending Dr. John Antalis; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Antalis earned a bachelor of science in chemistry from Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and, in 1982, he followed with his M.D. at Saint George´s University School of Medicine and later completed his residency program at Floyd Medical Center in Rome; and

WHEREAS, Dr. John Antalis, a practicing family physician in Dalton, Georgia, was named Georgia Family Physician of the Year in 1996 and currently services as President of the Medical Association of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, in his more than two decades as a physician, Dr. Antalis has tirelessly and enthusiastically devoted himself to the medical community and the fight for patient and physician rights, and has taken on an active role in politics, lobbying for state and federal policy on health care; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Antalis has held many leadership positions with the Medical Association of Georgia, acting as a representative and advocate for patients and his peers and helping to pass meaningful legislation in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he has served on the Board of Directors for the Medical Association of Georgia and MAG Mutual, has held the position of president with both the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians and the Whitfield-Murray Medical Society, and has served on the United States Pharmacopeia Quintennial and its Safe Medication and Errors Committee; and

WHEREAS, he is a loving husband to Cathy and devoted father to three children, Christina, Stephen, and Catherine.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Dr. John Antalis for his many contributions to the welfare of the citizens of this state and to health care policy legislation.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. John Antalis.
