A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
and commending the Henry W. Grady High School Mock Trial team; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Henry W. Grady High School Mock Trial team was formed in 1995 to teach
students through experience about the legal process, to nurture leadership
skills, and to encourage academic competition; and
WHEREAS,
the Grady High School Mock Trial team has a strong history of success,
previously winning nine regional championships and the state championship and a
thirteenth place finish at the National High School Mock Trial Competition in
2000; and
WHEREAS,
the members of the 2005 Grady High School Mock Trial team include students Curry
Andrews, Marcus Brooks, Sean Corley, Josie Duffy, Katherine Hagan, Kimberly
Hagan, Kenny Jones, Laura Jones, Janna Kaplan, Caroline McGlamry, Dyci Manns,
Katalin Ritz, Walker Rick, and Matt Westmoreland, as well as Teacher Coaches
Lawrence McCurdy and Kurt Phillips, and also Attorney Coaches Carl Gebo, DeAnn
Gibson, Dolores Henriquez, Trinh Huynh, Ashley Palermo, and Jay Patton of Powell
Goldstein LLP; and
WHEREAS,
the members of 2005 Grady High School Mock Trial team have been honored with
numerous individual awards, including 15 Best Witness and Best Attorney Awards;
and
WHEREAS,
the team won the Metro Atlanta Regional Championship on February 19, 2005, and
the State Championship competition on March 13, 2005; and
WHEREAS,
this accomplished team will represent the State of Georgia at the National High
School Mock Trial Championship from May 5 to May 7, 2005.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join to
honor and commend the members of the 2005 Henry W. Grady High School Mock Trial
team for winning their second Georgia State Mock Trial Championship and for
their many individual awards, encourage them in their endeavors, and extend
sincere best wishes for their success at the National High School Mock Trial
Championship.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Grady High School Mock
Trial team.
