Senate Resolution 504

A RESOLUTION

Honoring Reverend Daniel L. Edwards, Jr., for his outstanding community service and spiritual leadership; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Reverend Edwards was born in Marion, Alabama, during the height of the civil rights movement; and

WHEREAS, he grew up in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, in a family consumed with the entrepreneurial spirit; and

WHEREAS, as a young man, Reverend Edwards learned carpentry and landscaping skills which he still uses to run his own landscaping company, Dream Lawns, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, after graduating high school, he served in the United States Army from 1980 to 1983 as a military policeman and EEOC representative; and

WHEREAS, he returned to Ft. Wayne to marry his high school sweetheart, Sherida, and they moved to Atlanta; they have been married for 21 years and are the proud parents of Daniel III, a sophomore at Morehouse College, and Ashley, a sophomore at Stockbridge High School; and

WHEREAS, in 1992, Reverend Edwards accepted his calling to preach the gospel and soon thereafter he graduated from Interdenominational Theological Center Seminary; and

WHEREAS, he now serves as the pastor of Greater New Hope Christian Assembly in Ellenwood, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Edwards currently serves as the president of the Henry County branch of the NAACP; and

WHEREAS, he has been the leader in his community for gaining social and economic equality; he is a gentleman not afraid by any measure to stand for what he believes is right.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Reverend Daniel L. Edwards, Jr., on his lifetime of outstanding community service and spiritual leadership and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend Daniel L. Edwards, Jr.
