RESOLUTION
Expressing
regret at the passing of William Augustus Bootle; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
on January 25, 2005, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most
distinguished citizens with the passing of William Augustus Bootle at 102 years
of age; and
WHEREAS,
this exceptional individual exhibited outstanding leadership in all of his life,
including his service to this state and nation as a judge of the United States
District Court for the Middle District of Georgia from 1954 until 1970 and as a
senior judge of that court until 1981, and showed the courage of his convictions
and his commitment to the law in his court decisions desegregating Georgia's
colleges and universities and upholding the civil rights of all citizens;
and
WHEREAS,
his unparalleled organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience
and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his acute sensitivity to the needs
of the citizens of his community and state earned him the respect and admiration
of his colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
the passing of this generous, kind, and devoted man leaves an unfillable void in
the hearts and lives of his family and friends.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express
their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of William Augustus
Bootle.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of William
Augustus Bootle.
