A RESOLUTION

Honoring Ms. Betty S. Martin on the occasion of her birthday; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Martin, affectionately known to family and friends as "Big Momma," was born December 24, 1934, in Watkinsville, Georgia, to Roy and Rosa Stephen; and

WHEREAS, in 1939 Ms. Martin moved to Atlanta, where she has lived all of her life; and

WHEREAS, "Big Momma" graduated from Washington High School, attended Smith-Hughes Business School, and worked at William Lee Dry Cleaners, Garlin Cleaners, and Delta Airlines, from which she retired in 1993 after 22 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Martin is a member of Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church, where her spirited devotion is fully appreciated; and

WHEREAS, she is known for her extensive travels all over the world, and she is an active member of Quality Living Services Travel Club; and

WHEREAS, "Big Momma" has children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, neighbors, and family friends who all fondly consider her the matriarch of their respective families; and

WHEREAS, this remarkable lady has maintained a wonderful attitude and outlook throughout her long life and is a precious relative and a delightful friend to many; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Martin celebrated her seventieth birthday on December 24, 2004.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in honoring Ms. Betty S. Martin on the occasion of her birthday and extend their sincerest best wishes for her continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Betty S. Martin.
