RESOLUTION
Remembering
and honoring the life of Mayor Augustus Pou "Gus" Persons III; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
on March 9, 1940, Augustus Pou "Gus" Persons III was born in Macon, Georgia, to
loving parents Elizabeth Pharr Persons and the late Augustus Pou Persons, Jr.;
and
WHEREAS,
he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Georgia,
received his master's degree from Louisiana State University, and was a member
of Phi Delta Theta fraternity; and
WHEREAS,
he was a member of the American Bankers Association and president and chief
executive officer of The Peoples Bank of Talbotton for 32 years, earning the
respect and admiration of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS,
as the mayor of the City of Talbotton, a position he held for 19 years, he set
an example of all that is best in public service through his integrity,
intelligent leadership, and his tireless dedication to the citizens of his
community; and
WHEREAS,
he leaves behind a wealth of devoted family and friends, including his mother;
his beloved Susan Carroll Schlader; his three children, Augustus Pou Persons IV,
Henry Mason Persons, and Thomas Pharr Persons; and his two grandsons, Henry
Thomas Persons and John Patrick Persons, as a testament to his caring nature, so
often displayed through his many outstanding contributions to his
community.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join to
express their deep regret at the passing of Mayor Augustus Pou "Gus" Persons III
and extend their most sincere condolences to his family and the Talbotton
community.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the family of Mayor
Augustus Pou "Gus" Persons III and the city of Talbotton.
