RESOLUTION
Commending
District Attorney Investigator Jimmy Jones upon being chosen Peace Officer of
the Year for Valor; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
District Attorney Investigator Jimmy Jones has been selected Officer of the Year
for Valor by the Peace Officers Association of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
on September 18, 2003, a man in a crowd inside the Peach County Court House
began, without warning or provocation, swinging a baseball bat and striking
people, injuring some seriously; and
WHEREAS,
upon learning of the disturbance, Investigator Jones immediately notified the
sheriff´s office and called for medical assistance, then he rushed to the
scene where he discovered the man standing on the court house lawn with the
baseball bat in a threatening position; and
WHEREAS,
he ordered the man to put the bat down, as did several other officers who had
arrived on the scene, but the man charged in the direction of Investigator
Jones; and
WHEREAS,
forced to defend himself and others, Investigator Jones shot the suspect once
and then monitored his condition until medical assistance arrived;
and
WHEREAS,
his fast action and coolness under pressure prevented further injury to members
of the public and resulted in the arrest of the suspect; and
WHEREAS,
his determination and character have been reflected in his professional
performance throughout his career, and his high standards of conduct have served
as a model for the law enforcement officers and citizens of this
state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
District Attorney Investigator Jimmy Jones for having been selected Peace
Officer of the Year for Valor by the Peace Officers Association of
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Investigator Jimmy Jones.
