RESOLUTION
Remembering
and honoring the life of Lucius Black; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Lucius Black was born on July 27, 1915, and was a longstanding and devoted
member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Webster County; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Black served in the House of Representatives of the State of Georgia from
1945 to 1948 and from 1951 to 1972 where he earned a reputation for honesty,
integrity, courtesy, and intelligence; and
WHEREAS,
he was highly esteemed by his colleagues in the General Assembly for his wisdom
and wit, his persistent dedication to Georgia's citizens, and the friendship and
distinction which he brought to legislative deliberations; and
WHEREAS,
a born leader, Mr. Black continued his public service as sole commissioner of
Webster County from 1977 to 1990 and then as chairman of the reconstituted
county commission from 1991 to 1996; and
WHEREAS,
with the passing of Mr. Lucius Black on October 18, 2004, the State of Georgia
has lost a most estimable citizen and statesman who exemplified all the best
qualities of public service.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join
together to express their deepest regret at the passing of Mr. Lucius Black and
extend their most sincere condolences to his family and the community of Webster
County.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Lucius
Black and the Webster County Commission.
