A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Cardee Kilpatrick; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Cardee Kilpatrick has served her Athens-Clarke County community in numerous leadership positions, and throughout her career in public service, she has been regarded as a highly effective, intelligent, and responsible community leader; and

WHEREAS, during her service as District 10 Commissioner, she was a strong supporter of all Athens-Clarke County employees and often voiced her appreciation for their hard work in a public forum; and

WHEREAS, in each of her positions with Athens-Clarke County, she has demonstrated detailed knowledge of the issues before her and has earned the deepest respect of her colleagues and of the citizens she has represented with such care and concern; and

WHEREAS, her civic leadership and dedication to her community was already evident in 1984 when she was a member of the ad-hoc citizens group which introduced the concept of historic preservation to the former City of Athens, resulting in the historic preservation ordinance of November, 1986, which continues to protect the unique character of the city today; and

WHEREAS, her outstanding service to the Athens-Clarke County community has spanned 26 years and has included positions such as Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Chair, District 7 and District 10 Commissioner, and Athens-Clarke County CEO Pro Tem; and

WHEREAS, Cardee Kilpatrick is a community leader of outstanding integrity, dedication, and service, meriting sincere thanks and commendation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in recognizing and commending Cardee Kilpatrick for her many years of dedicated public service to the Athens-Clarke County community and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Cardee Kilpatrick.
