A RESOLUTION

Congratulating Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy on winning two Class A championship titles; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy Warriors achieved a historic victory after both its girls and boys basketball teams won Class A championship titles in the same year, a feat that has not been accomplished in the last 19 years; and

WHEREAS, on March 4, 2006, the boys team clinched the Class A championship title by defeating Whitefield Academy by a score of 76 to 71; only hours earlier, the girls team had secured their own championship title after defeating Atkinson County by a score of 53 to 45; and

WHEREAS, led by Head Coach Jermaine Thompson, Assistant Coaches Jackie Ransom and Casandra Kegler, and aided by statistician Lauren Watts, manager Darius Dixson, trainer Victoria Moore, and videographer Micah Presley, the talented players of the varsity girls team include Cori Pinkett, Naomi Thompson, LaTorria Jones, Amethyst Johnson, Precious Friend, Briana Brown, LaTanya Scott, Mariah Chandler, and Christina Robinson; and

WHEREAS, the boys team, led by Head Coach Courtney Brooks and Assistant Coaches Ernest Carter and Trajan Smith, with the assistance of statistician Daniel Harris, manager and trainer Joshua Williams, and videographer Antoine Mowatt, is composed of the following gifted athletes: Javaris Crittenton, Dominique McGaughey, Dorian Smith, Derek Dodds, James Kirkland, Eric Watts, Jahaziel Howard, Danny Friend, Anderson Baldwin, Ryan Hughey, Benjamin Scott, Joel Lamb, and Omarr Prewitt; and

WHEREAS, these prestigious wins have been made possible by the unwavering support of the leaders of Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, including founder, Pastor Wayne Thompson, headmistress, Geraldine Thompson, athletic director Dwight Howard, Sr., and athletic liaison Archiette Watts; and
WHEREAS, thanks to the hard work, dedication, and tireless commitment to excellence of their outstanding student athletes, the Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy Warriors girls and boys basketball teams have brought great honor to their school and community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in congratulating Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy on winning both the boys and girls Class A state championships and in recognizing this distinguished school's stellar athletic success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the above-named players, coaches, and staff of the Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy Warriors boys and girls basketball teams and to Pastor Wayne Thompson, Headmistress Geraldine Thompson, Athletic Director Dwight Howard, Sr., and Athletic Liaison Archiette Watts.
