Senate Resolution 1363

A RESOLUTION

Remembering and honoring the life of Mr. Herbert D. "Dick" Lynch; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dick Lynch was the beloved son of Jessee Lee and Elizabeth B. Lynch and was a long-time resident of Hendersonville, North Carolina, from 1956 until his passing at the age of 83; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Lynch was a graduate of West Nottingham Academy and Washington College and a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity; and

WHEREAS, he was an extremely talented athlete, a scratch golfer most of his life and heavily scouted by the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team;

WHEREAS, he served the citizens of this country honorably as a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and was a distinguished recipient of the Purple Heart, and bravely protected the freedoms of this country as one of the first waves of marines to land on the Island of Iwo Jima; and

WHEREAS, he was a faithful and lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Lynch is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Fay Brauning Lynch, and their three daughters and their families: Karen Thompson and husband, Steve, their sons Robbie Lasher and Christopher Lasher, and grandson, Chance Ryan Lasher, of Marietta, Georgia; Karol Lee Chandler and daughters, Malory Ann McDorman and Brittany Jane McDorman, of Duluth, Georgia; and Kristie Marie Greer and husband, Tom, and their son and daughter, Johnathan William Greer and Emily Fay Greer, of Dunwoody, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, this country lost one of its finest and most compassionate husbands, fathers, and citizens with the passing of Mr. Herbert D. Lynch on March 5, 2006; and

WHEREAS, while he was a man of great humility and honor and never considered himself to be a hero, the members of the State Senate hereby find that he was, in fact, very much a hero.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body remember and honor the remarkable life of Mr. Herbert D. "Dick" Lynch and express their deepest regrets on his passing with sincerest condolences to his family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Fay Brauning Lynch.
