RESOLUTION
Commending
Mr. Santiago Rodriguez, Jr.; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
throughout his extraordinary life, Mr. Santiago Rodriguez, Jr., has more than
done his share in service to humanity, and nowhere is this more evident than in
his valiant efforts on behalf of his nation during World War II;
and
WHEREAS,
as a serviceman on the USS
Hornet,
Mr. Rodriguez put his life on the line to fight not just for the security of the
United States, but for peace and freedom for people across the globe; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Rodriguez, who turns 82 on April 14, 2006, comes from a proud tradition of
military service; five generations of his family are war veterans, including his
father, who honorably served in the United States Army during World War I;
and
WHEREAS,
on May 28, 2006, the Rodriguez family will gather together for its 10th Annual
Memorial Day Celebration; and
WHEREAS,
all Americans owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to brave and noble citizens
such as Mr. Santiago Rodriguez, Jr., whose courageous service during World War
II helped to safeguard our liberty for generations to come.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join to
commend Mr. Santiago Rodriguez, Jr., on a lifetime of service to his community,
state, and country, and to thank him for his many invaluable contributions to
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Santiago Rodriguez,
Jr.
