Senate Resolution 1314

A RESOLUTION

Commending Dr. Stanley J. Pritchett, Sr., on the occasion of his retirement; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, during the course of his 35 years as an education professional, Dr. Stanley J. Pritchett, Sr., has touched countless lives with his compassion, encouragement, and unwavering devotion to students; and

WHEREAS, he is a graduate of Albany State College, which he attended on a four-year football scholarship, and received his master's degree at Georgia State University in 1977 and completed his doctoral degree at Clark Atlanta University in 2000; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Pritchett began his career in education as a physical education teacher at Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, serving as athletics director and coaching football and basketball; and

WHEREAS, in 1986, he joined the DeKalb County School System when he accepted a position at Towers High School as an assistant principal; in 1989 he was named as the principal of Columbia High School; and

WHEREAS, highly respected by students, teachers, and parents for his strong and inspiring leadership, Dr. Pritchett has received numerous accolades for his outstanding work as an administrator, including being named the 1992-1993 Principal of the Year for Area V of the DeKalb County School System; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Pritchett was promoted to the position of Executive Director of Business and Plant Services for the DeKalb County School System in the summer of 1996, and in 2000, he was appointed to serve as Associate Superintendent of Business Affairs and Plant Services; and

WHEREAS, since October, 2004, he has served as Deputy Superintendent of Administration and Business Affairs; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Pritchett is now retiring from the DeKalb County School System, and it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to pay tribute to this extraordinary gentleman on the occasion of this very special milestone.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join to commend Dr. Stanley J. Pritchett for his many invaluable contributions to education in Georgia and to extend their best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Stanley J. Pritchett.
